Caring for Yourself: Tips For A Happy and Productive Life

What’s up everyone! Ashley here and I’m doing a different tips video this week. It’s going to be about balance, and I know a lot of people either love that word or hate that word. Some people believe in the work/life balance, and some people don’t. And that’s fine, to each their own, right? As I always say. I just wanted to chat a little bit about how I make it work for me and the things that I do to balance myself.

First thing is that I don’t put a measuring tape on it. I don’t say, “Okay, I’m going to work these hours, and I’m going to work these certain days, and then that means that I’m allowed to do these other things.” I just do what I want to do. Everybody’s life is different. Everybody’s workload is different.

Some people need more socialization than other people do, so I don’t think that if you’re someone that requires a day to yourself and you have to just watch TV all day long and veg out that you’re lazy, by any means. That’s what you do to decompress, and maybe you do that a couple times a week, whatever. That’s your life, and it doesn’t matter. So, what other people are doing and what other people consider balance could be different for everyone.

I personally love working out five days a week, and the other two days, I don’t want anything to do with it whatsoever, but I don’t plan that. You know? I time block certain things for myself, where okay, yes, I’m going to allow for this. I really have tried lately to not be so hard on myself, especially right now, everything that’s going on in California and the Bay Area. It’s too much pressure. So you just have to forgive yourself. I do make to-do lists a lot for work, so that’s definitely something that’s a priority and I have to cross all those things off. And then if I don’t get to something, it rolls into the next day.

I love to be with my friends. I love a good drink or two or three. I love to have fun, go out and do fun things to just really decompress from all the stress that’s sort of put upon us from the outside crap that’s going on.

So, in summary, balance is different for everybody. It can mean different things. The balance between life and work doesn’t always have to be equal. Sometimes you have to prioritize work over personal life and vice versa. That’s okay. We don’t always have to be a straight line of, “Okay, I worked for an hour, so I get to play for an hour,” vice versa. You get the example that I’m putting out there, you know what I mean.

So just really figure out what balance works for you and do it. Do you, be yourself and do what makes you happy and do the things that you really, really love because that’s important, to just be happy in life and enjoy your time. So that is your reminder, that is your tip for this week. I hope that you enjoyed it and I hope that you practice it. Smile!
